WiMax Broadband is short for Worldwide
Interoperability for Microwave Access Broadband. In a
country like Spain and an area like the Costa Blanca,
it fills a huge gap where there are no landlines available.
In theory, WiMax can send data wirelessly
at a speed of up to 70Mb per second over distances of up to
50km. In reality, the speed and range is reduced due to environmental
conditions, topography and network capacity.
The Costa Blanca has many WiMax users experiencing
up to 3 or 4 mbps over 35km. This is faster than many Telefonica
landline broadband connections so is actually a viable option
even if landlines are available. Broadband Spain
is indeed an exciting development for both rural and developed
areas. |
